Medical Coder

Spectrum Healthcare Resources is excited to offer a potential career opportunity for a remote Medical Coder. The Medical Coder position applies broadly across various departments and clinics within military treatment facilities.

Job Duties:

• Review and assign appropriate medical codes.
• Modifiers and quantities as documented by the physician in the patient’s health record.
• Ensure compliance with federal coding regulations and DoD guidelines.
• Obtain clarification from healthcare providers for any ambiguous, conflicting, or non-specific documentation.
• Complete 80% or more of the assigned workload within the performance period (quarter).
• Maintain accuracy standards of 97% overall accuracy for diagnosis, E&M, and procedure codes.
• Ensure that coding is completed within established timeframes and meets DoD accuracy and compliance standards.
• Review and code a wide variety of medical encounters, including:
  • Inpatient services
  • Day Surgery/Outpatient Surgery
  • Emergency Department (ED) visits
  • Observation ServicesOB Triage
  • Clinic and Outpatient Visits

Job Requirements:

• A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One year related experience.
• Successful completion of a Medical Coding Course (CIC, CPC, CCS,COC,CEDC)
• Familiar with Microsoft Office applications Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Mail.
• Shall be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
• Have knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry, and automated records.
• Familiarity with MHS GENESIS, 3M Encompass preferred.
